Unlike the steel-shell SuperTen (which was Chrome Over Steel or COS), the COB Dyna-Sonic is revered for its bright, focused attack, ultra-sensitive response, and musical overtones.

Visual and Structural Markers:

• The 5-Line Shell Pattern: The easiest way to visually identify a genuine Rogers Big R COB shell is by looking at the center perimeter. It features five distinct parallel lines rolled into the metal around the middle.

• Flanged 45-Degree Bearing Edges: The metal shell transitions into precise 45-degree bearing edges, which gives the drum an incredibly wide tuning range, robust projection, and maximum head contact.

• No Snare Beds: Because the Dyna-Sonic was uniquely designed to work with an independent outer snare frame rail, the shell itself has no snare beds cut into the bottom bearing edge. If you take the bottom hoop off, the edge is completely flat all the way around.
