STEFFEN KUHNLA Master Cello Bow (Model 1041), 4/4 - Fine Pernambuco, Ebony, Sterling Silver, 79g
Master cello bow by the highly acclaimed Master Bowmaker Steffen Kuhnla of Bad Brambach, Germany. Please note that Kuhnla bows vary across a wide range of models. This high ranking model, the No. 1041, is made from the highest grade Pernambuco by Steffen Kuhnla himself and is typically offered brand new by dealers in the $3,000-$4,000 range.
Born in 1961, Steffen Kuhnla apprenticed in the 1980s with R. Messing, C.O. Durrschmidt and R.H. Leicht and became a Master Bowmaker in 1988. In 1989, he founded his own workshop, quickly earning a worldwide recognition among musicians for his outstanding master grade bows. He is a winner of the Tchaikovsky competition with his violin, viola, and cello bows. He is currently a lecturer at Markneukirchen University of Applied Arts (Musical Instruments Manufacture).
Kuhnla's exacting craftsmanship produces bows that play effortlessly, speak with clarity, and reveal the full range of the instrument's tone. The large stock of highest quality, old Pernambuco that Kuhnla acquired early in his career -- much of which had been seasoned for decades -- provides the source of precious material for his bows.
