This 2024 Fender Custom Shop 1950 Double Esquire takes you back to the very beginning of Fender's solidbody story. With its two piece ash body in a blonde relic finish, a rift sawn maple neck with a walnut skunk stripe and a pair of hand wound Blackguard pickups, it captures the raw, lively character of the earliest Fender electrics, and the Relic treatment gives it the look and feel of a guitar that has been played hard for decades.

Before the Broadcaster and the Telecaster, there was the Esquire. In 1950 a small number of two pickup guitars left the Fender factory carrying the Esquire name, a short chapter in history right before the Broadcaster was introduced. The Fender Custom Shop recreated this early guitar as part of its Time Machine collection, with details such as the Esquire headstock decal, a slot head truss rod nut and a flash coat lacquer finish that stay true to the originals.

The ash body gives the guitar a bright, snappy attack with a tight, focused low end, while the hand wound Blackguard pickups deliver that classic early fifties twang with plenty of bite and warmth. The rift sawn maple neck adds stiffness and stability, which helps every note ring out clearly. Its chunky 1950 Blackguard profile fills the hand with a satisfying, vintage feel, and the compound radius feels rounded near the nut while flattening out further up, so chords feel natural and bends stay smooth all the way up the neck.

This 2024 Double Esquire is in excellent condition. Apart from its aged relic finish, it shows only minimal signs of play. It comes with all its original accessories, including the shop floor traveler, the certificate of authenticity, a strap and the ashtray bridge cover, in its Fender Custom Shop tweed case.

This guitar has been carefully inspected for condition and playability, then set up to our Gold Standard by a luthier. We make sure it arrives in your hands exactly as it should: sounding its best, playing effortlessly and ready to be enjoyed from the very first note.
