1995 Gibson Les Paul Custom – Honeyburst | Flamed Maple Top | Ebony Board | Gold Hardware | Original Case
The Guitar
A Les Paul Custom from the good wood era with a flamed maple top in Honeyburst is a different animal from the black and gold version most people picture when they hear the name. The Custom appointments are all here, multi-ply binding on the top and back, an ebony fingerboard, the split diamond headstock inlay, gold hardware throughout, but instead of an opaque finish you get to see the wood.
This one is a 1995, built in Nashville on November 14 of that year according to the serial. Solid mahogany body with a carved flamed maple top, one-piece mahogany set neck, ebony board, 22 frets, 1 11/16" nut, 24.75" scale. The neck is a rounded C that sits between the '50s and '60s profiles, which is a comfortable place for most hands to land.
Gibson 490R in the neck and 498T in the bridge with gold covers, the pairing Gibson settled on for the Custom in this period and one that gives you a hotter, more aggressive bridge voice than a PAF-style set without losing clarity on the neck. Nashville Tune-o-matic, stop bar tailpiece, Grover Deluxe tuners with kidney buttons, black speed knobs, three-ply black and white pickguard.
Honeyburst over flame is the finish that makes this model, and the figure on this top is worth a close look in the photos.
Condition: Excellent
This guitar is in excellent shape. The body and neck are in excellent condition overall and everything is straight.
The frets have been leveled and polished, so it plays properly right now rather than needing work.
There are a few dings here and there, all documented in the photos. There is also a blemish on the back of the headstock near the serial number. All of the serial digits remain fully legible.
Additional photos are always available on request, and we're happy to answer any question before you buy.
Electronics: Full Disclosure
Two things to know about what is in this guitar.
The pickups are a newer set of the same 490R and 498T models the guitar shipped with, carrying a 2020 manufacture date. So they are correct for the model but they are not the 1995 originals.
The tone pots are push/pull. They are currently wired for standard tone function only, meaning the push/pull capability is in place but not connected to anything. Any guitar shop can wire them for coil splitting if you choose to add 4 conductor pickups in the future.
Everything else is as it should be and functions correctly.
The Case
Comes with the original Gibson hardshell case.
Who Is This For?
This is for the player who wants Custom appointments without the tuxedo, in a honeyburst over flame that looks like nothing else in the Les Paul lineup. Ebony board, gold hardware, split diamond inlay, fresh fretwork, and an original case. It is sorted and ready to play.
