RARE Kurt Gemeinhardt Handcraft Model Professional Handmade Flute

This flute is one of only a limited number of truly professional, handmade flutes that were hand crafted by Kurt Gemeinhardt in the early days of his company.  Gemeinhardt made these during a time when the company was trying to break into the professional flute market with Haynes and Powell.  They have a beautiful, unique handmade mechanism that was French cup version of the prototype that later became Gemeinhardt's signature American cup key design.  This particular flute also features the rarer first finger riser on the body, and ergonomically tilted pinky cluster on the foot joint that was produced in limited numbers (wonderful features for those with smaller hands and/or limited right pinky flexibility).

Sadly, serial number records for this time have been lost, but this would have likely been completed in late 1962.

The flute was recently fully serviced by renown woodwind tech John Butler (Straubinger Cert.), and is in exceptional playing condition.    The flute plays perfectly from top to bottom, with a warm, mellow sound.  Great projection and control.  This flute plays with a great example of the sound indicative of handmade American flutes from this vintage. The scale is excellent and offers even pitch and colors across all registers. The mechanism is beautifully crafted with a nice light, quick touch. The riser and economic pinky are excellent features for someone with smaller hands (although its worth noting that I have very large hands and flute is still very comfortable for me, too).

Cosmetically the instrument looks wonderful, and was completely disassembled and cleaned/polished during COA. The flute shows only normal surface wear from use that can be expected from a 60+yr old flute. Cosmetically 9/10.

The flute comes in the original French style leather covered case with blue velvet interior, and the original Gemeinhardt leather case cover.  The case and cover are structurally sound and protect the flute well, however they do show considerable wear from use and age. Cosmetically 7.5/10.  Also included is a new Yamaha cleaning rod.

This flute would be especially perfect for a Gemeinhardt enthusiast or collector looking for one of his few truly professional-level, handmade instruments.  It would also be well-suited for a professional, high-level amateur, or doubler looking for an excellent handmade instrument.

The flute will be shipped via Fedex Ground or USPS.
