Vintage Roland TR-55 (Rhythm 55), one of Roland's very first drum machines from the early '70s. Kept in a smoke-free studio.
This is where Roland's drum machine story starts, years before the 808. It's all analog with preset rhythms: bossa nova, samba, mambo, cha-cha, rock 'n' roll, ballad, slow rock, waltz and more, plus a variation knob for swing, fox trot, march, tango and others. You can stack buttons to combine patterns, and there's an Up Tempo button and a touch plate to start and stop.
The sound is soft, warm, and a little lo-fi, with woody kicks, ticky hats, and clave-style percussion. It's great for soul, lo-fi, indie, and anything that needs a vintage pulse. Run it through pedals or tape and it really comes alive.
