The MXR JHMS2 Octavio Mini is a compact octave fuzz pedal from the Authentic Hendrix ’68 Shrine Series, delivering the distinctive combination of aggressive fuzz and an octave-up effect associated with Jimi Hendrix’s classic Octavio sound. Its simple analog design responds dynamically to playing technique and guitar settings, producing everything from thick, saturated fuzz to pronounced upper-octave harmonics.
The pedal features straightforward Level and Fuzz controls for adjusting output volume and fuzz intensity. The octave effect becomes particularly prominent with single-note playing higher up the neck, while changes in picking dynamics and the guitar’s volume and tone controls can produce a wide range of textures. Despite its compact MXR mini enclosure, the JHMS2 is designed to capture the characteristic Octavio-style sound in a pedalboard-friendly format.
The JHMS2 pays tribute to the octave-fuzz tones Jimi Hendrix used during the late 1960s. Its distinctive finish is inspired by John Van Hamersveld’s artwork for Hendrix’s 1968 Shrine Auditorium concert poster, reinterpreted for the series by Simon Berndt.
