Built for players who want the raw attitude of an early-'60s SG without unnecessary complexity getting between their hands and the amplifier, the Gibson SG Special returns to the formula that made this stripped-down model such an enduring part of Gibson history. Its lightweight mahogany body, double-cutaway SG silhouette, SlimTaper mahogany neck, and pair of P-90 pickups capture a design closely associated with the formative sounds of classic rock while remaining remarkably adaptable for modern music. Finished in timeless Ebony with a contrasting black five-ply pickguard and chrome hardware, this no-nonsene SG is sure to turn heads with its authoritative black aesthetics.

The SG Special's two P-90 pickups are fundamental to its personality, occupying a compelling space between the openness of a traditional single-coil and the muscular response players often associate with a humbucker. Played clean, they can deliver warmth, articulation, and a smooth sweetness that suits blues, soul, roots, and rhythm work; push them into an overdriven amplifier and the sound becomes aggressive, harmonically rich, and unmistakably snarling. Individual volume and tone controls are hand-wired with Orange Drop capacitors, while the familiar three-way toggle makes it easy to move between the distinct voices of the neck and bridge pickups or blend them together.

A glued-in SlimTaper mahogany neck and bound Indian rosewood fingerboard reinforce the SG's reputation for fast, comfortable playability, while its double-cutaway body provides generous access across the fingerboard. The compensated wraparound bridge keeps the hardware deliberately straightforward, complementing the direct character of the electronics and the resonance of the all-mahogany construction.
