1951 Fender Deluxe 5A3 TV Front 10-Watt 1x12" Guitar Combo
This 1951 tweed Fender 5A3 Deluxe TV Front produces about 10 to 12 watts through a 12 inch speaker. The 6V6 power tubes are cathode-biased. The metal 6SC7 preamp tube is grid leak biased, resulting in warm overdrive with low headroom. The paraphase inverter is a metal 6SC7 as well. The rectifier is a 5Y3.
The control panel features three input jacks, two instrument and one microphone, volume controls for each channel and one master tone, with the power switch incorporated into the tone knob. When plugged into one of the Instrument inputs, the amp starts to break up early, around 4 on the volume. As you wind up the volume knob, the saturation continues to increase, without an increase in volume. The Mic input is similar, but with a darker tone.
In terms of condition, the speaker is an Eminence from 1982, which necessitated moving the output transformer to the baffle. The filter caps and two power resisters have been replaced. Other non original components include the handle and upper rear panel. The power cord is ungrounded.
With any vintage tube amp, it is highly advisable to get it serviced for safety and reliability as the electrical component values have likely drifted outside of specification over time. Therefore, the amp may not perform as it should, and the chance of damage to critical components is increased. Also, a grounded 3 prong plug should be added.
