Marshall
JMP 2203 Master Model 100W Lead – 1979 – Ex-Survival Studios, London
A fantastic 1979 Marshall JMP 2203 Master Model 100W Lead, with an incredible history spanning more than four decades of London's recording studio scene.
Originally purchased new for Survival Studios in Acton, West London, this amplifier remained at the studio until its closure in 2018. After nearly 40 years in one of London's established recording facilities, it subsequently found its way to Stand Alone Productions at the legendary Metropolis Studios in Chiswick, where it continued its working life.
It's fair to say that if this Marshall could talk, it would have some stories to tell!
During its time at Metropolis, the amplifier underwent an overhaul by the highly respected team at Audio Kitchen, before more recently receiving another professional service by Dave Wittering of Prestige Amp Servicing, former Marshall senior service engineer.
This is a proper working vintage Marshall with a fascinating history — an amplifier that has spent much of its life doing exactly what it was built to do. It's an interesting history for an already desirable late-'70s Marshall, and one that makes this particular 2203 rather more special than the average example.
Original Transformers & Vintage Character
The amplifier carries serial number SL/A 08566L, with its original factory inspection sticker dated 8 November 1979.
Importantly, it retains both its original mains and output transformers, two of the most significant components when assessing the originality of a vintage Marshall. The choke has been replaced at some point during the amplifier's working life.
Cosmetically, the amplifier is in fair vintage condition, showing the evidence of nearly five decades of use.
There are numerous age-related marks, scuffs, snags and tears to the tolex, entirely consistent with an amplifier that has spent much of its life in busy professional recording studios.
We haven't attempted to disguise its history with cosmetic restoration. The wear is part of this amplifier's story, and in our opinion, it's all the better for it.

It's certainly not a museum-piece Marshall, nor are we presenting it as one.
This is a proper studio veteran — a 100-watt JMP that has spent nearly five decades making music rather than sitting in a collection.
For someone looking for an authentic late-'70s Marshall with genuine recording studio provenance, plenty of character and a fascinating history, this is a particularly special example.
