Vintage MCM Advent NLA (A4) Bullnose Walnut Speakers *Clean! *Refoamed!

Wow! You’d be hard pressed to find a better example of these speakers. They look and sound phenomenal. These will be meticulously packed in separate boxes.

There are light scratches here and there, a couple of nicks, as well as a light discoloration on one of the speaker grills. All very subtle and difficult to see. All in all, these look spectacular and you’ll be proud to display them.

The Advent A4—more commonly known as the New Large Advent—is a classic acoustic suspension loudspeaker designed by Henry Kloss. Produced primarily from the late 1970s into the early 1980s, the A3 and A4 internal serial designations represent serial continuation batches of this updated large design rather than a completely different model.

Design and Build

* Configuration: 2-way sealed-box (acoustic suspension) system featuring a 10-inch woofer and the iconic convex dome "fried egg" tweeter.

* Cabinet: Features a distinct "bullnose" curved front walnut veneer edge (on the later production runs) and a heavy, sturdy build.

* Crossover / Controls: Includes a rear-mounted 3-position toggle switch to adjust high-frequency output/crossover balance.

* Woofer Build: Unlike the original Large Advent that utilized a Masonite-ring frame, the New Large Advent / A4 generation moved to a steel-plated mount for the 10-inch driver.

Sound Quality & Performance

* Bass: The sealed acoustic suspension enclosure uses trapped air as a spring to control the woofer, delivering deep, tight, and uncolored lower bass octaves (usable down to about 30–35 Hz) without becoming loose or muddy.

* Mids & Highs: The proprietary "fried egg" tweeter provides a smooth, non-fatiguing, and forgiving high-end response that wide-stages well without requiring a rigid sweet spot.

* Tonality: Reviewers and enthusiasts describe the speaker as neutral, uncolored, and well-suited to a wide variety of analog and digital genres (from classical and folk to rock and heavy metal).
