Martin 00-18 1956 - Natural
Martin 00-18 acoustic guitar made in Nazareth, PA in 1956. Serial number 147842.
The guitar has just come out of Kerry Char's shop here in Portland with a fresh neck set and a new bone saddle. There has additionally been a 2" crack repair on the back near the waist of the guitar. The guitar has been well played and was probably re-fretted in the recent past as the frets and fingerboard show very little playwear.
The Spruce top shows quite a bit of playwear around the pickguard which has become cloudy with age. The top is bound with a delicate five-ply binding with tortoise being on the outside. The top also shows a beautiful thin patina of uniform checking over the surface.
The back and sides are Mahogany and show wear that is uniform and consistent with an instrument of this age. Additionally, there is finish wear on the lower bout, treble side and four small cracks in the upper bout of the Mahogany side stabilized with an interior veneer patch. The Brazilian Rosewood bridge is original as is are the tuners.
Included with the sale of the guitar is a firm fitting vintage Excelsior guitar case with plush blue lining.
The string height at the 12th fret is 5/32" on the bass side and 3/32" on the treble side.
The nut width is 1 3/4".
The weight is 3 pounds 9 ounces.
