A rare 15" pre-serial Formula 602 Sound Edge pair with hollow Paiste stamps and a 42-ripple bottom. Few pairs turn up in this condition.
Both cymbals have dark patina, with deeper coloration on the top. The pair produces an excellent foot chick, a dark, articulate sound when closed and a dark, splashy wash when played half-open.
Historical context
Cymbal Wiki dates the introduction of the 15" Formula 602 Sound Edge to 1967. Its guides document the outline stamp appearing just before serial numbering began in 1972, alongside early Sound Edge bottoms with 36–42 ripples. The combination of hollow stamps, no serial numbers and a 42-ripple edge suggests early-1970s transitional production. An exact year cannot be established from these features alone.
