Vintage 1970s Univox Hi-Flyer Bass – Phase 4 – Short Scale – Made in Japan

Vintage 1970s Univox Hi-Flyer Bass, Phase 4 model, featuring the classic Hi-Flyer design and desirable 30" short-scale neck. This Japanese-made bass has the distinctive black finish, white pickguard, maple neck and fingerboard, dual humbucker-style pickups, and original-style hardware and controls. Note not getting any sound from the neck pickup. Could be the pot connection the switch or worst case scenario the pickup needs a rewiring. Any skilled luthier could resolve this issue. Other than this it was played not that often. It worked last time i used it. Prior to listing it i discovered this issue. Always kept in a climate control storage. Very fun bass sold as is.

The Phase 4 Hi-Flyer represents the later period of the Univox series and retains the distinctive design and character that made these Japanese instruments popular. The 30" short scale gives the bass a comfortable feel while maintaining the punchy response associated with the Hi-Flyer.

This example has developed a natural patina from age, giving it an authentic vintage appearance without being excessively worn. The neck is straight, the action is low and comfortable, and the truss rod functions properly. The bass is 100% original and unmodified, with the original electronics and hardware intact.

It is being sold with its vintage hard-shell case featuring the original-style red interior, making it an especially attractive example for a collector or player looking for an original vintage Univox.

Condition

Overall, cosmetically the bass is in very good vintage condition with normal signs of age and use. The natural patina adds to its character, with no major cosmetic issues. The instrument is ready to play and is being offered in original, unmodified condition.
