The Dunlop EP101 Echoplex Preamp is a compact guitar pedal designed to recreate the distinctive tone-shaping character of the preamp section in the classic Maestro Echoplex EP-3 tape echo. Rather than adding delay repeats, it enhances your guitar's core sound with extra warmth, fullness, clarity, and a touch of natural-sounding grit when pushed.

How it sounds

The EP101 uses FET (field-effect transistor) circuitry modeled on the original EP-3 preamp. Its effect is more about changing the character and feel of your guitar than simply making it louder.

• Warmth and fullness: Can make individual notes sound thicker and chords feel more substantial.
• Added presence: Helps guitar parts feel more focused and prominent in a mix.
• Natural grit: At higher Gain settings, it produces a mild, organic overdrive rather than heavy distortion.
• Responsive dynamics: Retains much of the natural feel of your playing, making it useful for both clean and overdriven tones.
