Having had just one owner from new, this amplifier has spent its entire life in a recording studio, where it has seen very little use. As a result, it remains in exceptionally clean condition, making it a fantastic example of Marshall's celebrated 50-watt Plexi reissue.

Built in England and inspired by the original late-1960s Marshall JMP amplifiers, the 1987X faithfully recreates the unmistakable sound and character of the classic 50-watt Plexi, delivering everything from rich, dynamic cleans through to the legendary British crunch that helped define rock music.

This particular example is fitted with Dagnall mains and output transformers, a desirable feature that reflects the traditional construction and heritage of these classic Marshall amplifiers.

Tone & Performance

The Marshall 1987X is a faithful recreation of one of the most influential guitar amplifiers ever produced.

Its 50-watt, non-master-volume circuit delivers the unmistakable Plexi character, with exceptional touch sensitivity, rich harmonic overtones and the natural compression that comes from driving a traditional valve amplifier.

At lower volume settings, the 1987X produces beautifully open, articulate cleans with plenty of warmth and dynamic response. Push the volume and it comes alive with the thick, aggressive midrange, crunchy overdrive and singing sustain that made the original Plexi amplifiers legendary.

The two-channel, four-input design also allows players to jumper the channels, blending the brightness and bite of the High Treble channel with the warmth and fullness of the Normal channel.

The result is an incredibly versatile amplifier that responds beautifully to guitar volume adjustments and picking dynamics.

The Dagnall transformers are another notable feature, providing the traditional transformer specification associated with Marshall's British-made valve amplifiers.
