1970s Electro-Harmonix Small Stone Phase Shifter Version 1 with the iconic red/black script logo. I purchased this pedal brand new in the mid-1970s, making me the original and sole owner. It was used for years of gigging and recording and then put aside. Please note pics...two feet are missing and I'm pretty sure I put in different screws in the case at some point, and it shows its age. I recently discovered it had collector value and wish I'd taken better care of it!
Key Technical Details & Authenticity:
- Potentiometer Date Code: The original CTS rate pot is stamped 1377534, dating its manufacture to the 34th week of 1975 (late August 1975).
- Circuit Board Variant: This unit features the highly desirable, ultra-early transitional layout often referred to by collectors as the "Issue J" board. There are no technical model numbers (like EH-4800) printed on the component side. Instead, it features the primitive, handwritten-style "small stone" text etched directly into the copper trace side.
- ICs / Chips: This pedal captures the exact mid-1975 factory transition period. It utilizes the early rectangular plastic DIP-package chips (the classic CA3094E / EH1048 architecture), offering the exact same iconic silicon circuit composition and lush tone as the earliest round metal cans.
- Operation: 100% fully functional. The single Rate knob sweeps smoothly from a slow, watery pulse to a rapid ring-mod-like warble. The "Color" switch engages perfectly, activating that deep, deep psychedelic swoosh.
- Modifications: None. The pedal is completely original and un-tampered with.
Because this is a single-owner time capsule with verifiable pot codes and a transitional board variant, it is a perfect addition for any vintage pedal collector or player seeking authentic '70s tone.
