Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a very unique and older Electro Voice 661 model dynamic cardioid microphone with the on / off switch and dual impedance setting. This mic was nothing more than an upgraded 664A. The difference between the two was that the 664A was set at Low Z and did not have the Hi Z option like the 661 does. Otherwise the mics were completely identical in every way.

Pic # 2 shows the more common 664A model and it's basic specs from an old data sheet I have. The data sheet is not included but you can always make a copy of it for reference purposes.

The 664A has a lot in common with the E.V RE10 and RE15 series mics utilizing the same element and Variable D technology that gives the user a minimum of unwanted feedback when close to the mic. It's virtually pop proof which most mics have a difficult time with. The 661 and 664A are very smooth in tone and in the Low Z setting you get a lot of warmth as well making it ideal for singing and broadcasting as it was intended.

In the Hi Z setting the mic is basically void of bass and sounds very rockabilly in nature. The Hi Z setting is ideal for audio equipment that require Hi Z mics only. Ham radio set ups and P.A equipment are usually candidates of the Hi Z mic.

It should be noted that while the dual Z switch on the mics lower pistol grip works excellent and only takes about 30 seconds to change, the previous owner wanted the mic on full live mode so the on / off switch has been deleted to full live. he made the change on the switch mechanism. He had the correct schematic to do that. I don't have that schematic so I'll be leaving the switch mechanism alone. If you choose to reverse it back to normal that will be your call. Again, impedance mechanism works perfectly and currently set at Low Z.

The mic has been thoroughly gone through and cleaned. As you can see it's a very nice example showing an absolute minimum of wear. The stock painted body shows just a few lite scuff marks. The front screen is tarnish free, No dents or odors and the inner foam pop filter was replaced as the original was basically wore out.

The XLR pin on the lower pistol grip were cleaned ensuring a perfect connection once the cable is attached. The E'V label on the upper tube is free of wear and completely legible. I'd rate the mic a true 9 on a scale of 1 - 10 though many would rate higher.

The mic also comes with the 18 foot XLR cable in which to operate. The cable is soft, pliable and free of any wear. It has two quality Switchcraft end connectors. You've got plenty of room to work with for any studio or stage setting.

The mic will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have and the threading on the mic is perfect. Nothing stripped.

MICROPHONE STAND IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.

This mic will really impress you for just about situation you use it with.

As with all my other vintage microphones...
