American blues-rock prodigy Eric Gales serves up some of the tastiest licks in the business, and he needs to have just the right seasoning on hand when it's time to turn up the heat. The MXR Raw Dawg Overdrive is designed to do just that. Developed around a classic circuit known for grit and crunch, the EG74 reshapes that foundation with a more balanced midrange response and additional gain, giving it a sweeter, more organic character as the Drive control climbs. The result reflects Gales' expressive approach to the guitar: responsive enough for nuanced phrasing, but capable of adding serious heat when a solo needs to step forward.

Housed in MXR's compact mini enclosure, the Raw Dawg keeps its controls deliberately straightforward with Output, Tone, and Drive knobs. It can function as a lower-gain boost, add crunchy definition to rhythm parts, or supply more saturated overdrive while retaining a natural overall response. True hardwire bypass keeps the signal path simple when the effect is disengaged, and its modest 6mA current draw makes it an easy addition to an existing 9V pedalboard power system.
