Introduced for 2020, the Schecter Omen Elite-6 FR took the long-running Omen series, one of Schecter's most popular and affordable lines, and dressed it up with an arched burl top, pearloid line inlays, newly designed Schecter Diamond Heretic humbuckers, and a Floyd Rose Special 'Hot Rod' locking tremolo. The result is a Floyd Rose equipped Schecter that delivers a powerful rock vibe and serious playability at an affordable price. This one wears a rich Black Cherry Burst finish, and while that bold burl top and sleek double-cutaway design may hint at a guitar built for shredders, the Omen Elite-6 FR is a versatile electric guitar that feels right at home across a wide range of musical styles.

A Floyd Rose may instantly suggest a certain genre of music, but unless you play in an '80s metal tribute band, it pays to have a guitar that is more than a one-trick pony. Despite their ominous name, the Diamond Heretic pickups are medium output, with the neck and bridge measuring 9.8K and 14.5K respectively. They handle classic rock crunch with ease, yet have the kind of low end tightness that lets them chug through heavy riffs. Their lack of pronounced midrange emphasis also means they clean up nicely with good clarity and note separation. For cleaner passages, the 5-way pickup selector adds coil-split settings to the usual neck, bridge, and combined positions. As expected, the splits have a drop in output, but for leaner, jangly tones they do the trick.

The slim "C" profile neck, 14" fretboard radius, and 24 extra-jumbo frets lean toward shred. At the 1st fret the neck is about .035" shallower than a typical Fender Standard Strat, then tapers to a similar thickness by the 12th fret. Unless you have very large hands or prefer a chunky vintage profile, the Omen Elite plays with little effort, and the locking Floyd Rose system keeps tuning stable through aggressive whammy bar work.
