Gibson Custom Shop 1996-97 Dove in Flight - art-piece looks combined with a fully matured, stage-ready tone.
Born under the supervision of then master luthier Ren Ferguson.
Inlay work: based on the Dove's ornamentation, the headstock features an inlay of three doves spreading their wings in flight, true to the name. The fingerboard has double parallelogram inlays, and the bridge carries dove-motif inlays.
Matured maple sound: after about 30 years since its 1996-97 manufacture, the Sitka spruce and quality flame maple have dried well. The crisp, clear sound characteristic of maple has gained a rounded warmth and rich sustain that a new guitar cannot produce, delivering an excellent strumming sound.
Despite its lavish ornamentation, its voice as an instrument has fully peaked. The square-shoulder body provides rich volume and responds directly from hard strumming to delicate arpeggios.
The Dove in Flight is a special Custom Shop model made in very limited numbers, and well-opened 1990s examples are sought after by collectors and professional musicians alike.
