Take a traditional eight-string mandolin, add a pickup for amplified performance, and then forget all expectations of what a mandolin is supposed to look like. What you've got is the Mando-Strat 8, an eight-string version of the distinctive four-string Fender Mando-Strat. It's a solid-body instrument with its strings arranged in the traditional four courses (pairs) typical of most mandolins. Based on Fender's four-string electric mandolin of the late '50s and '60s, it even includes the quirky "hockey stick" headstock used on several 1960s-era Fender instruments. Beyond its fun look, the Mando-Strat 8 is comfortably playable, with a small body, "V" neck profile and fantastic chiming tone.
