There’s really nothing subtle about a vintage Gretsch Viking—and that’s exactly the point.

This 1971 example has all the presence and personality that makes these guitars so interesting. It’s big, bold and immediately recognisable as something from a very particular period of Gretsch history.

At 55 years old, it has developed the sort of played-in feel that you simply can’t reproduce by artificially ageing a new instrument. There’s history here, but this isn’t a guitar that’s finished doing what it was built to do.

Inevitably, the condition of this guitar tells a story. Over its time there have been a few repairs - some better than others. The binding isn't in the best shape, and there is of course lots of nicks, dings, and scratches. Honestly, all this just adds to its character and proves that this guitar truly lives up to its name. What kind of Viking doesn't have a few battle scars?

It remains a fantastic instrument to sit down with and actually play.

That’s particularly important to us. Vintage guitars can be historically interesting, rare or collectible, but the best ones are still great guitars first and foremost. This Viking ticks that box.
