1966 / 1967 Fender Coronado II – Very Nice with Complete Refret

Here is a very nice and sought-after original series Fender Coronado II. It is serial number 196382, dating it to late 1966 / early 1967.

At some point in its life this Coronado II was converted to a Guitorgan, which had active segmented frets. It has now been reverted back to a regular guitar, and has undergone a complete refret.

It has been professionally setup and it plays great.

No damage occurred to the guitar itself, other than one micro switch hole in the pickguard and one section on the F hole where another switch once was. It looks like it was displayed in a front window at one point. The red part of the 3 tone burst on the top has completely faded away, other than under the pickguard and the footprint of the switch that was installed. [see pics]

There is a little age paint wear to the area around the “F” in “Fender” on the headstock.

From the Web:

“The Fender Coronado remains one of the most distinctive and collectible "left-of-center" instruments in Fender's historic catalog. Because production has been limited to just two primary eras, finding one today means looking closely at the vintage market or hunting down a mid-2010s reissue.”

“The Fender Coronado II (1966–1972): The classic, fully hollow original. Known for its bouncy, acoustic-like "twang" courtesy of its original DeArmond single-coil pickups. Original finishes like Sunburst and Cherry are highly sought after.”

Unlike traditional Fender designs, the Coronado featured a fully hollow body without a solid center block, resulting in a lightweight instrument with a highly resonant acoustic voice.

  • Thin-line full hollow body utilizing laminated maple for the top, back, and sides, accented by dual unbound f-holes.
  • A traditional Fender bolt-on maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard, 21 frets, and a distinct "B" neck width profile topped by a standard Strat-style headstock.
  • Electronics: Outfitted with specialized, bright-sounding DeArmond single-coil pickups rather than standard Fender-designed pickups.
  • Hardware & Options: Featured a floating bridge with a trapeze tailpiece. A factory-installed Bigsby vibrato tailpiece was available as an optional upgrade.
