2014 Collings 02HG 14-Fret Special Order – German Spruce / Rosewood w/ OHSC

Up for sale is a special-order 2014 Collings 02HG 14-Fret, handcrafted at the Collings workshop in Austin, Texas (Serial #23496).  

This custom build upgrades the soundboard to a Select German Spruce Top ("G"), paired with solid East Indian rosewood back and sides ("2") and classic pre-war style herringbone purfling ("H"). While a standard Collings 02H features a 12-fret neck with a slotted headstock, this piece was special-ordered with a 14-fret neck-to-body joint and a solid paddle peghead.  

The German spruce top combines the sweet, articulate warmth of Engelmann with the dynamic headroom, stiffness, and punch of Adirondack spruce. Matched to Collings' compact Single-0 body and a 14-fret neck, this instrument produces exceptional note clarity, rich overtones, and fast response across the entire fretboard.

Appointments include grained ivoroid body binding, herringbone top purfling, a 2-style herringbone backstrip, an ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl diamond and square inlays, and an ebony belly bridge with ebony pins. The Honduran mahogany neck features a 24 7/8" scale length, a hand-cut bone nut, a compensated bone saddle, and nickel Waverly open-gear tuners.  

Under the hood, hand-voiced scalloped Sitka spruce X-bracing and an ultra-thin high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish let the German spruce top breathe and open up completely.  

Condition & Setup:

This instrument is in excellent pre-owned condition with smooth action, a dead-straight neck, clean frets, and plenty of saddle height remaining. Ships in its original Collings hardshell case.
