The 1983 Gibson Corvus II is one of the most eccentric and distinctive electric guitars in Gibson’s history. Produced during the late Norlin era from 1982 to 1984, it was part of the "American Series," designed to compete with popular bolt-on neck guitars of the time.
Its radically asymmetrical solid hardwood body features a deep offset V-cut at the tail. While marketing claimed the silhouette resembled a "crow in flight" (Corvus is Latin for crow), it is more commonly known by collectors under the affectionate nicknames "the can opener" or the "Pac-Man guitar"
Specifications & Configuration
- Electronics: Equipped with two Gibson humbucking pickups (often attributed to Bill Lawrence designs), controlled by dual volume knobs, a master tone knob, and a three-way pickup selector switch.
- Neck & Fingerboard: A bolt-on maple neck paired with either a rosewood or ebony fingerboard featuring 22 frets and a standard 24¾” Gibson scale length.
- Hardware: This guitar features an upgraded Kahler Tremolo bridge/tailpiece combo and a unique, narrow headstock designed to keep string pull completely straight.
