Calrec CM1050C Cardioid Condenser Microphone (1970s) - Tested & Working
Up for sale is a genuine Calrec CM1050C, a cardioid condenser microphone dating back to the 1970s. This is a lesser-known but highly respected classic, originally developed as a direct competitor to the Neumann KM84 and preferred by a good number of engineers who used both back to back.
- Widely used by the BBC for broadcast and studio work throughout the 1970s and 80s
- Famously used by John Bonham (Led Zeppelin) on drum recordings
- Believed to have been used in the legendary Glyn Johns drum recording technique — the 3-mic overhead method (kick + two overheads positioned around the snare) that became John Bonham's signature drum sound on Led Zeppelin records
Calrec later became Hebden Sound, producing essentially the same microphone design. Hebden Sound has since stopped manufacturing new microphones but reportedly still services and repairs both Calrec and Hebden units
I personally own two of these microphones, both from my own collection, and both are in full working order. No original box but will provide good quality microphone zip case.
The CM1050C is a genuine piece of British recording history, a mic with a real pedigree in both classic rock and modern live sound. A great option for anyone chasing that authentic vintage overhead/drum sound, or simply looking to add a rare, functional piece of studio history to their collection.
Will be send same or next day tracked and bubblewrapped!
Thanks for looking.
