AMS Neve Series 66 (36 Channel Broadcast Console) 1991
This is a 36-channel AMS Neve Series 66 broadcast channel originally owned by WGN Chicago. The first 4 photos show it assembled for reference, the rest show it disassembled as-is. While I am the third owner, unfortunately my situation has led me to never being able to commission the console. As such, I have never powered the console and cannot personally speak on its sound. That said, this is a great board and deserves to be a in place where it can be used. The second owner operated a studio in Chicago for 10+ years using this console and had high praise for its sound and function.
I don’t know the last time it was re-capped, but I do know that the previous owner did it at least once and performed other maintenance. I’ve personally inspected the cards and they look clean to me. It was working when sold; they sold the console due to downsizing / moving spaces, and now I have to do the same.
Since I bought it, the console and all related components has been stored in a temperature / humidity controlled, smoke-free environment. The chassis is always covered to prevent dust build up on the PCBs, and the cards are stored vertically in boxes to prevent warping. It is fully disassembled so it should be fairly easy to pick up if you bring a 10-15’ truck. I just need notice since not everything is stored at the same location (I’d need to bring the PSUs over to the chassis location). I will also send you some reference photos for some of the voltage rail wiring.
This console was pulled from a working environment and was fully functional at the time of purchase. All components are included in this purchase. I reached the photo limit, but this includes:
• All original manuals and documents as I received them (includes some tech numbers in there..)
• Fully wired TT patchbay with all ELCO / Varicon cables (this console exclusively uses ELCO connections - NOT DB25, XLR, TRS, etc. All cables were functioning when I received this and are included as-is)
• Full console chassis (the various metal side plates, hand rests, and other parts are all included as is - I ran out of photo space to show everything, but yeah.. you’re not buying a stripped console hah. Some of the metal pieces have scratches or scuff marks, but everything is fully intact. The core console consists of 6 buckets; 4 are for the board components, the other 2 are for the patchbay and rack mount outboard gear)
• All screws, bolts, washers, and other parts used to assemble the board (as-is; I put things in baggies so there aren’t a bunch of loose screws everywhere).
• Power cables, PSUs (4), and crossovers (2). The board only needs 2-3 PSUs and I believe one crossover to operate, but extras are included for redundancy. I will note that one PSU needs a checkup (one rail is wonky), but the others work fine. These can be run on 120V.
• Whole lot of faders (extras are included - I don’t know the exact number off the top of my head, but it’s enough for the full console). This console is cool in that you can swap the channels out for mono or stereo. The photos only show a fraction of them.
• 54 channel cards total. 38 are mic pres if I recall correctly. 26 are mono, 12 are stereo. When fully loaded, the console can support 36 channels. One singular card has a broken capacitor (C3), but it is a relatively easy and quick fix (the capacitor will be included for reference - it appears to be a generic 47uF / 35V electrolytic cap and I can send a photo if requested. It’s not in an inaccessible location). I also have a couple extra switch covers and whatnot that will be included. Besides that cap, all the channels should function as far as I know. The channels and faders can be swapped out as you see fit.
Each channel is equipped with mic / line in, hi/low pass filters, panning, 4 band parametric EQ, and 6 aux sends. There’s also grouping ability (8 groups max based on the meters). Should be sufficient for any mixing and/or live tracking needs!
• Summing mixer (the box with the orange transformers) and associated PCB box (the box with the green cards)
• Other miscellaneous accessories. I’m honestly not 100% sure what everything is, but I have a box with extra ribbon cables, PCBs, and other random bits for the board that were collected over the years. These will be included as I received them.
That about sums it up. Thanks for reading! Just to reiterate this is sold as-is, as I received it. I have not been able to use it at all. While it sucks for me, it‘s good for you since I have not contributed to any thermal or electrical wear on the components (haha).
Due to the relatively low cost of the board and high cost of shipping such a thing, I am unlikely to consider shipping this unless we’re able to work something out on your end. Local pick up is strongly preferred.
