Chances are if you’re looking at this then you probably know a bit about it. The Sonex range was not one of Gibson’s more popular endeavours (Bolt-on necks!! Bodies mostly made of a resin compound!!), but I feel that they are criminally underrated. 

I did a low-fi video demo of this guitar a while ago and the YouTube link is included in the photos section.

It’s in surprisingly good shape for its 45 years. The only major ‘ding’ is on the bass side of the neck by the second fret (see photo). This is purely cosmetic and doesn’t affect playability. The guitar is a much creamier colour than it appears in most of the photos. 

The neck is fairly chunky but very comfortable. Lovely dark rosewood fretboard. Plays beautifully. Frets are in very good shape. Pickups are Bill Lawrence-designed ‘Velvet Brick’ humbuckers and sound fantastic (to my ears anyway).

You’ll see in the photos that there’s quite a gap in the neck pocket. This does seem fairly common with Sonexes, but I assure you the neck is rock solid and not going anywhere.

Comes with a generic but decent rectangular hard case. Would benefit from a new set of strings.

I’m asking £850. For an ‘80s Gibson! There aren’t millions of these around so grab a bit of Gibson history.
