The Classic V-Comp+ is Audioscape's enhanced take on the legendary Gates variable-gain, all-tube compressor made in the 1950’s. Originally designed for broadcast, it gained a reputation among engineers and producers as one of the most musical and effortless compressors ever created.
The V-COMP+ adds a premium JJ6386 tube for gain reduction, boasts expanded recovery time options and features a +5db input drive switch, making this sought-after classic more versatile for the modern studio.
I bought this new and have put a hundred or so hours on it. It works absolutely perfectly, and sounds killer. Audioscape recommends warming it up for 3 hours for it to sound its very best, but I'm not sure I can tell the difference. I've used it on a lot of vocals and guitars (acoustics especially), it's truly great.
