Item: USHAG723429
Here's a interesting piece of rock history: an original 1968 Hagstrom H-8 8-String Bass in excellent condition. Handcrafted in Sweden, the H-8 was the world's very first mass-produced 8-string bass, famously favored by Noel Redding of The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Jimi Hendrix himself to achieve a massive, wall-of-sound octave chorus swell.
This specific instrument is a highly desirable first-run specimen featuring an un-faded original Sunburst finish. It bears Serial Number 723429, which decodes directly to Hagstrom's historic shipping ledgers as the 429th instrument built out of the debut 600-unit batch (Run 723) allocated between late 1967 and 1968.
The original Sunburst finish looks great showcasing only the lightest, most respectful signs of age-appropriate handling. No major gouges, deep buckle rash, or unsightly modifications.
The famously slim, ultra-playable neck plays great. Fret wear is pretty much non-existent, and the bass sets up wonderfully across all eight strings with comfortable action. The electronics are 100% factory original and fully functional. Both single-coil pickups punch with high-fidelity vintage clarity, and the complex matrix of vintage slider tone/pickup switches are totally functional. Original Van Ghent tuners hold pitch beautifully despite the doubled string tension. Comes with a rare, period-correct rectangular hard shell case. The case is in good condition, structurally sound, and all latches function securely to offer excellent protection.
