A stunning and highly collectible example of the rare Fender “THE STRAT”, produced on January 28, 1982, right in the middle of the celebrated “Dan Smith Era” at Fender.
Introduced as a high-end version of the Stratocaster, “THE STRAT” features unique specifications that set it apart from standard 70s/80s models:
- Small Headstock (Pre-CBS style): Color-matched headstock in Arctic White finish, reflecting the return to classic body and headstock contours under Dan Smith’s direction.
- Heavy Brass Gold Hardware: Massive gold-plated brass bridge, saddles, tuners, and control knobs for increased sustain and stability.
- Original Circuitry: Standard 5-way pickup selector with original cloth-wire harness and controls.
Condition & Tech Notes:
- Date Code: Original neck pocket body stamp reading 01 28 82 (Jan 28, 1982). Headstock serial number: G 022667.
- Finish: Original Arctic White, beautifully aged over 40+ years into a warm vintage cream patina.
- Fretboard: Rosewood board with dark grain and clean frets, offering smooth playability.
- Electronics: Fully original vintage circuit with cloth-covered wiring. Technical transparency note: probably factory-original solder pool on the middle pot casing. The middle potentiometer features a knurled/split shaft rather than a solid/half shaft—a completely period-correct variation reflective of the mixed component sourcing common during the Dan Smith/Fullerton era. Neck tone pot is equally consistent with factory assemblies of this period.
