Sutherland Engineering PhD Phono Preamplifier – Excellent Condition
For sale is an excellent-condition Sutherland Engineering PhD, one of Ron Sutherland’s highly regarded battery-powered phono preamplifiers.
The PhD was designed around an exceptionally quiet, isolated power supply using 16 D-cell batteries, completely separating the phono stage from AC-line noise. The result is the type of extremely low noise floor, transparency, detail, and natural musical presentation that Sutherland phono stages are known for.
The PhD offers adjustable gain and cartridge loading, making it suitable for a wide variety of moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges.
Highlights:
• Battery-powered design for exceptionally quiet operation
• Dual-mono internal architecture
• Adjustable 45, 50, 55 and 60 dB gain
• Selectable cartridge loading
• Excellent moving-coil performance
• Designed by Ron Sutherland
• Original retail price approximately $3,000
This example is in excellent cosmetic and operating condition and has been well cared for. A terrific opportunity to own a serious high-end analog phono stage without spending today’s high-end phono-stage prices.
The Sutherland PhD is especially impressive with a good MC cartridge, offering a very quiet background, excellent resolution and imaging while retaining a natural, non-fatiguing presentation.
Reasonable offers considered.
