This vintage Fender Duo-Sonic is a unique example of one of Fender’s most beloved short-scale student models, combining original components with tasteful modifications that give this guitar its own distinctive character. The instrument features a 1961 alder body with a carved arm contour reminiscent of the Stratocaster, finished in a classic black refinish. The neck dates to 1959 and retains its original finish.

The Duo-Sonic’s compact body and 24" scale length make it exceptionally comfortable and easy to play, while its alder construction provides the balanced, articulate character associated with vintage Fender instruments. The shorter scale offers a slightly slinkier feel than a standard Fender scale, making this guitar particularly comfortable for players who enjoy a more compact neck and responsive playing experience.

The maple neck is paired with a rosewood fingerboard and features a 7.25" radius with a 1.53" nut width. The combination provides a familiar vintage Fender feel while offering a little more scale length than the earliest Duo-Sonic examples.

One of the standout features of this guitar is its all-original electronics. The original pickups, pickguard, knobs, and electronics remain intact, preserving the vintage character and tone of the instrument. The guitar retains the clear, articulate single-coil response that makes early Fender student models so appealing, with plenty of snap and character for clean tones, garage rock, indie, country, and beyond.

The guitar has replacement aged Gotoh tuners and a replacement neck plate. The body has also been refinished in black and features a carved arm contour similar to a Stratocaster. These modifications give the guitar a distinctive appearance while retaining its original vintage Fender components where it counts.

As with any vintage instrument of this age, this Duo-Sonic shows signs of its history and previous modifications. The combination of components from different years makes this a particularly interesting instrument for collectors, players, and enthusiasts of vintage Fender guitars.
