Pair of Vintage 50s Electro Voice 664 Classic Dynamic Cardioid Microphones with Rebuilt Cable!

These are in great shape for their age. Have been tested and checked over. Everything is in working condition.

Fabricated cable from a vintage 4-pin Amphenol screw-on connector xlr to current 3-pin xlr- low Z cable. Custom made and tested with mircophones. Can be re-wired for Hi-Z if wanted.

History about these mics:

The Electro-Voice 664 was introduced in the 1950s, famous for its unique ray-gun styling and extreme durability.

  • Design & Nickname: Often called the "Buchanan Hammer" because Electro-Voice co-founder Lou Burroughs famously used it to hammer nails into wood during product demonstrations in Buchanan, Michigan.
  • Aesthetics: Styled like a mid-century space-age ray gun or chrome hood ornament. It came in satin chrome (664), non-reflecting gray (664A), and decorative gold (664G).
  • Variable-D Technology: Uses multiple rear sound entrances to create a consistent pickup pattern and eliminate the low-end proximity effect (bass boost when close to the mic). This technology served as a direct ancestor to modern broadcast mics like the Electro-Voice RE20.

Key Specifications

  • Type: Dynamic cardioid with an exclusive non-metal "Acoustalloy" diaphragm.
  • Frequency Response: 40 to 15,000 cps (Hz).
  • Impedance: Selectable between 150 ohms (Low-Z) and High-Z via wiring or the plug.
  • Sound Character: Offers a mid-range heavy, retro, and slightly lo-fi tone that works well on electric guitar cabinets, speech, and specific character vocal
