The flagship archtop of the D’Angelico lineup has returned. Inspired by John D’Angelico’s original single-cutaway Excel model introduced in 1947, the Excel EXL-1 delivers a rich, woody voice with excellent articulation for both rhythm and lead playing.
Its redesigned neck profile balances comfortable mobility with a substantial, supportive feel in the hand. The EXL-1 is equipped a Johnny Smith floating mini-humbucker for a focused, woody sound that allows the archtop’s natural resonance to shine.
Premium appointments include an ebony fingerboard, Jescar fretwire, and dependable Grover hardware.
This D'Angelico EXL-1 is in very good condition. Minimal fret wear. There are some scratches from normal playing wear as well as a finish scratch on the headstock (see picture).
