This 1968-1969 Yamaha FG-150 Red Label Nippon Gakki is a very special guitar to me. I bought it in 2012, and from the moment I got it, it became my number-one acoustic guitar. For more than a decade, this guitar has been part of my musical journey — on stages, in recording sessions, and countless moments in between. It has a warmth, character, and natural voice that only comes from a well-loved vintage instrument.
The FG-150 is part of Yamaha’s early Red Label era, made in Japan by Nippon Gakki, and is known for its unique vintage tone and projection. This guitar features a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, and traditional X-bracing. It also includes an LR Baggs Lyric pickup, installed by a professional, making it ready for live performance.
This isn’t just a vintage Yamaha that sat in a collection — it has been played and loved for years. It has been my go-to acoustic since 2012, and I’m only selling it because I feel it’s time for this guitar to start a new chapter with another musician. I hope whoever gets it next enjoys it and makes as many memories with it as I have.
I will include a decent gig bag.
