22" Istanbul Agop Special Edition Jazz Ride

From my cymbal vault.. 22" (2140g) Istanbul Agop Special Edition Jazz Ride Cymbal. I purchased this cymbal while in Esenyurt, Istanbul Turkey at a pre-arranged foundry visit. Spent an extensive amount of time with a few master cymbalsmith to find that authentic hand crafted roar. They also educated me some really interesting unknown aspects of their cymbals. That US dealers know about. One being that every top tier or "graded" cymbal has an intentional sweet spot. To them, top tier has nothing to do with potential retail price. The sweet spot is about the size of baseball. Anyway, many cymbals were brought home. This is one of them. If you ever noticed a circle in black marker on the front of the cymbal it's usually the sweet spot.

If you know Istanbul Agop, you know this isn’t the kind of cymbal that just sits quietly on a stand, it has serious personality. This 22" Special Edition hits that sweet spot between crisp stick definition and that dark, simmering roar underneath that never runs away from you. The stick feel is soft and buttery, the wash is smoky and low, and when you dig into the shoulder, it opens up with a gorgeous, trashy crash that gets out of the way just in time. The bell is warm and blends right into the music. It’s got that authentic, dry, late-night jazz club vibe that you build the rest of your sound around.
