Pioneer RT-909 4-Track Auto-Reverse Reel-to-Reel Tape Deck — IOB — Exceptional Collector Condition

Offered here is an exceptionally well-preserved Pioneer RT-909, complete with its original factory shipping carton and molded packing materials, with matching serial number, as well as the increasingly difficult-to-find Pioneer-branded NAB hub adapters in their original packaging. We handle a great deal of high-end vintage open-reel equipment, and cosmetically this is quite simply the finest RT-909 we have encountered.

This is not merely a display piece. The rubber components have been replaced, and moving parts and controls have been cleaned, flushed, lubricated and exercised as appropriate. The machine has been fully tested and is operating properly. Our accompanying video demonstrates the basic transport, playback and control functions, while the extensive photographs provide full coverage of the machine, heads, cabinet, faceplate, rear panel, accessories, original carton and packing materials.

Cosmetic condition is truly outstanding. The brushed-aluminum face, black cabinet, controls, reel tables and transport area show remarkably little evidence of the machine’s age. We have deliberately included a close photograph of the tiny bump at the lower-left edge of the faceplate, rather than attempting to hide the most minor imperfection. Please examine all photographs closely; they form an important part of the condition description. This is about as close to a genuine “closet queen” as we encounter in vintage audio.

The RT-909 is one of Pioneer’s most recognizable open-reel machines: a substantial 10½-inch-reel, 4-track/2-channel stereo deck with auto reverse, electronic transport controls, digital tape counter, pitch control and the spectacular blue fluorescent display that has made the model a centerpiece of countless vintage systems. This example combines that classic appearance with unusually complete provenance and superb preservation.

Included: Pioneer RT-909 tape deck; original Pioneer shipping carton bearing the matching serial number; original molded packing materials; and Pioneer-branded NAB hub adapters and vanishingly rare reel height adjustment sheets in their original packaging.

Because the original carton is now a collectible component in its own right, the complete factory-packed machine will be carefully protected inside a substantial outer shipping carton so that both the RT-909 and its original packaging are preserved in transit.

Worldwide shipping is available, and local pickup is very welcome. International buyers are responsible for any applicable import duties, taxes or brokerage charges.

A spectacular surviving example of one of the most desirable Pioneer reel-to-reel decks—fully tested, beautifully preserved, exceptionally complete, and ready for many more years of music.
