【Watch Before You Buy】Ancestor's #403 Type3 ELITE 2026 - Gloss lacquer finish
A special-edition, premium concert model from Ancestor's Ukulele,
based in Gifu Prefecture, has just arrived.
This exceptional instrument combines carefully selected premium tonewoods
with exquisite decorative details, meticulously crafted down to the very last detail.
The body is crafted from luxurious master-grade Hawaiian koa,
featuring stunning figuring and rich, vibrant coloration.
The beautiful grain and natural hues of the koa create a striking appearance
with an unmistakable presence.
Brazilian Rosewood is used for both the headstock veneer and the built-in pickguard,
creating a refined and cohesive aesthetic throughout the instrument.
Every detail has been carefully considered to achieve a truly luxurious specification.
At the 12th fret, the fingerboard features an original Ancestor’s inlay
known as the “Amulet Inlay (Jingu-fuda).”
Inspired by the traditional Japanese aesthetics of Ise Jingu and Izumo Taisha,
this distinctive design lends the instrument an unique and captivating presence.
The headstock is further adorned with a diamond-shaped inlay,
a limited feature exclusive to the ELITE model.
All of these exquisite decorative elements are meticulously handcrafted by OGAWA INLAY CRAFT,
reflecting an exceptional level of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Black walnut is used for the back of the headstock veneer,
while spalted Japanese horse chestnut is featured in the rosette and bottom ornament.
From the selection of materials to the smallest design details,
every aspect has been carefully considered,
giving the instrument an appearance reminiscent of a fine work of art.
The instrument features a 392 mm scale length, offering slightly more room
than a typical concert-size ukulele.
It also delivers excellent tuning stability and a well-balanced weight distribution,
providing an exceptionally comfortable feel and outstanding playability.
Sonically, this ukulele delivers an impressive sense of depth and dimensionality,
reminiscent of a fine piano, with powerful, focused highs that have remarkable clarity and presence.
A rich midrange and beautifully shimmering overtones add further depth, resulting in a full-bodied,
dense, and highly resonant sound.
The note separation, natural reverb, sustain, and overall volume are all exceptional,
offering an outstanding level of performance across the board.
This is a truly remarkable instrument that we highly recommend for solo players seeking a rich,
expressive, and captivating sound.
A masterfully crafted concert model that brings together the exceptional craftsmanship of Mr. Sakai
of Ancestor’s Ukulele, carefully selected materials, and exclusive specifications.
This outstanding instrument embodies the finest qualities of a premium handmade ukulele,
offering an extraordinary playing experience to be truly savored.

Ancestor's Ukulele
Ancestor's is a builder's ukulele brand founded by Hajime Sakai,
a luthier based at the Ancestor's workshop in Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
In his mid-twenties, Mr. Sakai aspired to become a musical instrument craftsman.
While navigating the demands of a busy corporate career,
he devoted his limited free time to honing his ukulele-making skills.
In 2013, he took the next step and began working as a professional luthier in earnest.
Through his participation in various musical instrument exhibitions and
his connections with professional musicians and music retailers,
the name Ancestor's quickly gained recognition.
Today, Mr. Sakai is highly regarded as a sought-after ukulele builder.
Even today, he continues to craft approximately 30 ukuleles a year in his small,
five-and-a-half-tatami-mat atelier.
Carefully assessing the characteristics and condition of each piece of wood,
he builds his instruments almost entirely by hand, without relying on large-scale machinery.
