The 2023 Gibson Les Paul Custom in Ebony is a high-end, USA-made electric guitar from Gibson Custom Shop. It is essentially Gibson's luxurious, "tuxedo" version of the Les Paul, based on the classic 1950s design.
- Body: Mahogany back with a 2-piece maple top
- Finish: Gloss Ebony/black nitrocellulose lacquer
- Fingerboard: Genuine ebony, with mother-of-pearl block inlays
- Neck: Solid mahogany, Modern Medium C profile
- Frets: 22 medium-jumbo

- Pickups: Gibson 490R neck + 498T bridge humbuckers
- Controls: 2 volume + 2 tone, with a 3-way pickup selector
- Bridge: ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic with stopbar tailpiece
- Tuners: Grover kidney-style

- Binding: Multi-ply around the body, neck and headstock

The combination of black gloss finish, gold hardware, cream binding and pearl block inlays is why Les Paul Customs are often called "Black Beauties" or described as having a tuxedo appearance.
How it sounds
The 490R/498T combination gives it a powerful, fairly aggressive Gibson humbucker sound. The neck pickup can be warm and thick for blues, jazz and classic rock, while the 498T bridge pickup has more output and bite for hard rock and heavier music.
