For your consideration is an extraordinarily rare, museum-grade piece of American archtop history: a 1953 Guild X-600 Custom Transition Model, entirely hand-crafted during Guild’s first full year of production in Manhattan, New York.

Bearing the Serial Number 1194, this guitar comes from the highly coveted first production block, which began at 1000 in 1953. It features the highly sought-after vertical, guitar-shaped “Ghost” label inside the f-hole, proudly stamped Guild Guitars Incorporated, New York 3, N.Y.

The Ultimate Collector's Configuration (Factory Pushbutton-Omitted)

While standard catalog X-600s featured six pushbuttons, this transitional masterpiece was custom-built with three original Franz single-coil pickups, three individual volume knobs, one master tone knob, and a 3-way toggle switch mounted on the upper bass bout.

When Alfred Dronge founded Guild in a Manhattan loft, he hired master artisans directly from the collapsing Epiphone factory. This guitar is a legendary, physical example of those Epiphone craftsmen building a flagship X-600 body using their familiar Epiphone multi-knob layout before Guild fully locked down standard catalog specifications later in 1954. It is not a modification; it is a scarce, factory-original transitional variant.
