Vintage RARE 1957 Stromberg Carlson MC-41 / Shure 55S variant Satin Chrome w cable & Atlas SO-1B Elvis 55 Super 55

 You are looking at a rarer variant of the 1950's era Shure 55 S microphone that is virtually identical but it was sold under license with the Stromberg Carlson badge. Shure Brothers sold under license it's 55 S to only a few different American companies back in the 1950's. DuKane, Demambro and Stromberg Carlson were those companies involved. This MC-41 is an 1957 model and comes with the original cable in which to operate as well as the Atlas SO-1B on / off adapter.

 I don't know much about Stromberg Carlson other than they sold a ton of electronics equipment back in the day and they were based out of Rochester, NY. They utilized the 55S with the Royal Blue silk screens. I have only ever come across a couple dozen of these models over the past 15 years. If you are looking for a rarer and unique 55S for the mic collection then this one will certainly do.

 Pic # 2 shows this very model in an old Shure catalog I have and it's basic characteristics.

 Again, there was no difference between the 55S and the MC-41 mic. Just the label of the brand that it was sold under. Again, both are technically Shure microphones.

 It should be noted that while this mic works perfectly with a strong 100% signal you can see that there is typical lite wear on the top of the head in the form of tiny pitting but otherwise very nice. This mic was originally intended for singing and broadcasting and has exceptional tone. This MC-41 has the adjustable impedance switch for low, medium and high impedance and the switch on this mic works just fine.

 I take the time to secure the inner element as it's held in place with 3 shock mounts that wear out with age. All of these older mics need to be properly grounded to do so as the element is very sensitive to static shock and you can ruin the mic if that's not done. I've come a cross a lot of these mics where somebody attempted to do so and ruined the element. If you don't have any experience let somebody do it that does.

 As you can see the satin chrome body still has a very nice luster. Despite the cosmetic wear there are no fractures, dents or engravings anywhere. The ribs are completely straight as well. 

 The Royal Blue silk screens have the worst of the wear. A few subtle rips on the front top and bottom screens and the left front side has some wear as well. Some very lite discoloration.   Often these old 55 mics are stained with tobacco as smoking was quite popular back in the day. You won't find any of that on this mic. The joint mechanism works perfectly with plenty of tension and a wide degree of tilt. The label shows some wear as well.

 This mic is a decent example overall and I would rate it an conservative 7 cosmetically on a scale of 1 - 10. It will be a great daily mic for just about any situation.

 The mic comes with the longer original cable in which to operate. It's soft, pliable and free of damage. Appx 20 feet long giving you plenty of room to work with in the studio or stage. It has the quality detachable male Switchcraft 1/4 inch end connector. This mic is ready to go.

 The lower Atlas SO-1B mic stand adapter is included because the mic has some slightly tripped threads for the stand. The adapter fixes that issue. It screws right into the mic and allows you to quickly remove the mic from any stand you use.

 The Atlas SO-1B is a two piece chrome assembly that's held into place via tension. It's a very practical adapter that will rally come in handy. There's just lite wear on the bottom piece but works great.
