1950s Carvin 7-BG Short Scale Pocket Electric Bass Guitar (VIDEO! Work Done, Ready)

Overview: I set this up for its owner last year but he's been thumping on a rubber-bridge bass from the shop and so doesn't have a use for two extra-short-scale basses. This Carvin is the bee's knees as far as retro, charming looks go, though. The cut of the body is tres cool!

Said body is a big old maple slab and the neck is maple as well. Harmony supplied Carvin with fretboards and that's why this guy clocks-in at a Harmony-style 25 1/8" scale length. It has an oddball Bigsby guitar bridge (original issue) which I've fussed-around with via filing to get decent intonation/compensation for the bass strings. The pickup is single-coil and has adjustable poles and the plastic tailpiece is super-odd but stock.

Repairs included: Sarah gave it a fret level/dress, I'd added a ground to the bridge at some previous time, and then it got a setup. It's playing spot-on and ready to go.

Condition notes: The pickup fit/polepiece configuration is quirky and the low E rides a little close to the pole so if you thump it hard, the string can sometimes "pop" the pole. I am happy to explore smaller or cut-own polepiece options for this as one of the polepieces is unoriginal at the moment, anyhow. Just let me know! I am also happy to make a rubber-bridge saddle for this which, I think, would take it to the next level in terms of having more of an upright-style, bouncy tone (and increased pitch stability, for that matter). I would then just ground the strings at the tailpiece which would be an easy mod. A solid rosewood saddle is also an option, but doesn't really add anything the current saddle doesn't give.

Aside from the repro-style tuners and one polepiece, the bass is all-original throughout. It's got a little light wear and tear and we added side dots to the neck, but it is in good order.
