The Restoration Includes:

Full Crossover Upgrade: High-grade 10.0 µF Carli MPT film capacitors. These replace the failed, leaky factory wax blocks, restoring top-end clarity, protecting the delicate front-wired paper tweeters, and ensuring the crossover remains within spec for decades to come.

Control Switch Service: The multi-position discrete rotary attenuator switches (L-pads) were thoroughly flushed and cleaned with DeoxIT D5 to eliminate dropouts and ensure clean signal delivery to the tweeter path.

Complete Woofer Re-foam: The original 8-inch high-compliance woofers were cleaned down to a stable baseline and professionally re-foamed using premium surrounds and M-3035-C industrial solvent-based adhesive.

Mechanical Alignment & Assembly: The voice coils were centered using a low-frequency sine-wave sweep matrix to ensure rub-free alignment, then bonded to guarantee a permanent, airtight seal required for this acoustic suspension design.

Baffle Refinishing: The speaker baffles were prepped and spray-painted in an era-correct flat black finish, maintaining the rugged, industrial look characteristic of original Acoustic Research factory styling.

Hardware Refinishing: Tumbled driver/baffle hardware in polymer puramids to remove rust. Primed and finished in black satin.

Tweeter Plate Detailing: The circular tweeter mounting plates were refinished in a rugged black hammered texture, and the delicate factory tinsel lead anchors were safely camouflaged.

Woofer Cosmetic Detailing: Woofer baskets prepped and finished in flat black to match baffle. Dust caps dyed in Super Black India Ink

Cabinet Veneer Correction: The walnut veneer cabinets were stripped of 50 years of residue using heavy-duty automotive wash thinner, treated with an oxalic acid wash to remove severe water rings, and conditioned with Howard Restor-A-Finish and Feed-N-Wax for a low-luster satin glow.

Grille Restoration: The original Masonite frames were cleared of old staples and re-clothed in an apparel-grade, open-knit natural flax linen/burlap fabric that matches the original 1970s New England factory look.

80-Hour Lab Soak Test: Every speaker undergoes a strict "burn-in" to ensure new film capacitors are fully settled and the system is mechanically and electronically stable before being offered for sale.
