Unusual, turn-of-the-century instrument circa 1880 to 1910.
This one is the "Shield" shaped body style. The brass Dragon soundhole cover seems to be original to the instrument, and a rather rare feature.
I've been completely through this instrument, stabilized and patched the cracks in the top sound and back, verified a straight neck, installed and modified modern mandolin tuners.
It is finished in a polyacrylic gloss over shellac.
