CORDOBA TORRES CLASSICAL MASTER SERIES GUITAR

This Torres Guitar was among the first of the Cordoba “Master Series” which represents the epitome of three generations of classical guitar construction.  This particular guitar was inspired by the constructions created by the Spanish luthier Antonio de Torres who is considered by many as the father of modern classical guitar constructions. Original Torres guitars are known for their huge sound, housed in small, lightweight frames. The Torres guitar reproduced by Cordoba carries on this legacy with its “huge voice and prolonged sustain” created by a small bodied guitar based on a specific 1856 Torres Guitar with a 24.8-inch body and 640mm scale.

Anyone familiar with Cordoba Guitars knows that the company produces some of the finest guitars made in the United States and Spain, and in the company's less expensive models which are made in China.  The company issued the first of the Masters Series in 2013.  At that time, I had several Cordoba Guitars and was familiar with their quality.  For those who are unfamiliar with Torres guitars, they are relatively small, with a scale of only 640mm.  They are the size of what some refer to as parlor or 7/8 guitars. The instrument is light in weight and is a wonder to hold which is a characteristic of the light 7 fan bracing system first developed by Antonio Torres in the late 1840’s.  The guitar's craftsmanship is outstanding. The guitar is handmade with precise joinery using carefully selected solid woods. The Rosewoods are African, not Brazilian or Bolivian.  Due to the African Rosewoods, the guitar offers a soft smooth attack accompanied by outstanding harmonics with a prolonged lingering sustain which is more characteristic of fuller bodied guitars.  I purchased this Torres in early 2015.  All of my guitars have been maintained in a environmentally controlled room kept at 70 degrees Fahrenheit with 72% humidity.  Due to this degree of care the guitar is in excellent to mint condition free of scratches dings or any other blemish.

 Why am I selling?  I am 92 and have reached the end days of this portion of my earthly journey.  Before departing I am attempting to do a number of things.  Chief amongst those is divesting my many possessions, of which I have 32 guitars that I have collected over the past 75 years.  Some of these I am passing on to grand and great grandchildren and a handful of family and friends.  The rest I hope to place in the hands of aspiring young guitarists.

*Please note in the photos that follow:  You may see some distortions or “hot spots” in the photographs of the body of the instrument.  These aberrations are caused by a hand-held flash unit and are not reflective of excoriations in the guitar itself..  The guitars case is still very solid but has some soiling due to it being stored in one of my outbuildings for the past twelve years.
