 The Trident Audio Developments A-Range 500 Series mic/line/instrument preamp boasts a distinguished pedigree. Delivering the characterful sound of the microphone preamplifier that spawned countless hits in the 1970s and beyond, the A-Range 500 Series preamp is inspired by the all-discrete input circuit developed by Malcolm Toft and Barry Porter for the revered A-Range consoles, only 13 of which were ever built. Accordingly, the Trident A-Range 500 Series preamp infuses signals with analog warmth, verve, and character, making it a welcome addition to modern DAW-based studio setups.

 The Trident A-Range preamp packs a lot of functionality into a compact 500 Series module. It has 70dB of mic input gain on tap, which turns microphone selection into a purely artistic decision, giving you the freedom to choose mics based on their appropriateness for the source — not their output. The circuit also includes a genuine CineMag transformer, which assists in delivering that authoritative, “big-iron” sound. The A-Range 500 Series preamp features concentric mic and line input gain pots, mic/line and DI switching, a mic/line/DI input 1/4-inch/XLR combo jack, switchable DI impedance, 48V phantom power and polarity reverse switches, a 26dB pad, and an output gain control — everything you need to ensure a perfect front-end signal.
