2002-2004 Fender ATL-70 Aerodyne Telecaster, Crafted in Japan - Black / P-90 / Matching Headstock / Pro Setup
A seriously cool and fairly uncommon Fender Japan Aerodyne Telecaster from the early 2000s. The ATL-70 takes the classic Tele formula in a slightly different direction, with the sleek contoured Aerodyne body, cream binding, matching black headstock, and a glossy Fender logo that gives it an almost Deluxe-style look. Super classy and honestly one of the sexiest Tele designs Fender Japan made during this era.
The pickup combination is a big part of what makes this model special. It features the original Fender Japan HOTROD-T P-90-style neck pickup paired with a Fender TL-Vintage Telecaster single-coil in the bridge. You still get that familiar Tele bite and clarity from the bridge, while the neck position is noticeably thicker, warmer, and punchier than a traditional Tele neck pickup. It makes the guitar extremely versatile and gives it its own character compared to a standard Telecaster.
The guitar is in good overall condition with numerous signs of honest playwear throughout, including scratches, small finish chips, and other cosmetic marks from normal use - please see the photos for details. Nothing that takes away from the overall look or playability; if anything, it gives the guitar a nicely played-in feel.
The frets are in very good condition with no major divots or dead spots and have been polished to a shine. The guitar has been professionally set up and plays clean and comfortably across the neck.
These early Japanese Aerodyne models are a really cool chapter of Fender Japan production - familiar Fender DNA, but with a distinctly Japanese design approach that you don’t see on a typical Telecaster.
No case included. Weight: 7.64lb
The following work has been done: full cleaning, lemon oil fretboard treatment, fret spot leveling/polishing and string height setup (2.3 mm at the 12th fret on the low E string), pickup height adjusted for balance and clarity, and a fresh set of D'Addario XL 10/46 strings installed.
