Beautiful 1967 Gibson SG Special in Cherry finish, weighing only 2.97 kg / 6.55 lbs.
That weight is one of the first things you notice when you pick it up. It is exceptionally light, lively and resonant, even by vintage SG standards, and has that effortless feel that makes these old Specials so addictive to play.
The guitar all original except for the tuners and nut. The original frets are still fitted and show no noticeable wear, which gives a good indication of how little this guitar has actually been played over the years.
The two original P-90s sound fantastic. Warm, open and unmistakably vintage, with plenty of character and clarity. They have that great old P-90 combination of sweetness when played clean and bite when pushed.
The original finish has developed beautiful natural checking throughout the years. It is exactly the kind of aging that modern Murphy Lab guitars try to recreate, but there is something much more convincing and beautiful about the real thing after nearly sixty years. Unfortunately, the depth and character of the checking are very difficult to capture properly in photographs. It looks much better in person, especially when the light hits the finish from different angles.
The guitar has an old repair to the side of the body. It has been stable for decades, has been checked by a luthier and needs absolutely nothing. I am listing the guitar as Very Good rather than Excellent only because of this. There has never been a headstock repair or a heel/neck-joint repair, which is particularly nice to see on an SG of this age.
Another very cool detail is inside the electronics cavity, where the name and address of the original French owner are still written. Together with the guitar's documented history, it gives the instrument a lot of personality and makes it feel like a guitar with a real story rather than just another vintage SG.
It was also featured in the French Guitarist & Bass magazine, where the actual guitar is shown and identified as:
Gibson SG Special 1967 #095991
The magazine accompanies the guitar and provides a nice piece of documented provenance.
At 2.97 kg, it is an exceptionally light example and a genuinely inspiring vintage SG to have in your hands.
The guitar comes with its original hardshell case.
It will be carefully packed and shipped from Athens, Greece.
